Author Interview

What was the first book you ever wrote and what inspired you?

My first published historical western romance was Loving Lucas, Book 1 in The Ladies of Cascade Creek. I lived in Colorado when I was younger, and I thought it would be a great setting for a frontier romance.

What drew you to the romance genre?

I’m a sucker for a happy ending!

Is romance your favorite genre to read as well as write?

I read lots of romance, but also biography, history, writing how-to and fantasy.

Can you tell me something about yourself that may surprise your readers?

I wanted to name my daughter AnnMarie. My husband didn’t go for it.

What do you do to help with writer’s block?

Take a walk or listen to some music.

If you had to choose three words to describe what type of writer you are what would they be?

Historical western romance!

What is your author pen name and do you have more than one?

AnnMarie Oakes is a pseudonym. I do write in some other genres.

If you had to pick a favorite author who would it be?

I’m a fan of Linda Lael Miller. Diana Palmer has also written some entertaining western romances.

If you had to describe your writing style and books in a single sentence what would it be?

My books are historical romantic adventures on the frontier!
